Mote and Beam? Sing Hymn # 273 Truth Reflects upon Our Senses

It's been years since I remember singing this hymn in church, but when I was growing up, we sang it quite often.  It was while singing this hymn by Eliza R. Snow that I thought about the beam and the mote that Jesus teaches us about in Matthew 7:1-5 and it was while singing this hymn that I decided that I never wanted to worry about the mote in someone else's eye before paying attention to the beam in my own eye.

Be sure to sing the 4th and 5th verses, too!

(This song would be a good one for you teach your daughters how to sing alto because most of the alto part is a 6th or a 3rd away from the melody, so it is relatively easy to hear and sing.)

Don't underestimate the value of hymn singing with your family.  Young children may not understand everything being sung about, but the words will sink deep into their hearts and be there when they need them as they grow in their understanding.
